Abiding in Christ, Abiding in Love

Living in the Spirit ;
Christianity is not merely a religion to be practised — it is a union to be lived. The believer is not simply called to follow Christ from a distance but to dwell *in* Him, sharing the same intimacy that exists between the Father and the Son:
*"That they may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You."* — John 17:21
This is the nature of divine union. The fellowship between the Father and the Son is sustained by perfect love, willing surrender, and unbroken communion. And it is precisely because Christ dwells in the Father's love that He abides there so completely.

The Pattern of Divine Love
Jesus made this pattern explicit when He said:
*"As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you: continue ye in My love."* — John 15:9
Follow the flow: the Father loves the Son, the Son abides in the Father's love and Christ loves the believer and the believer abides in Christ by abiding in His love. Abiding in Christ, therefore, is inseparable from abiding in love. Love is not merely a fruit of union with God — it is the very atmosphere in which that union breathes.
To abide is to remain, to stay connected, to continue in fellowship without interruption. It is not a momentary encounter but a settled dwelling. And the home the believer dwells in is love itself.
---
Christ in You — You in Christ
This union has two inseparable dimensions. First, Christ is *in* the believer:
*"Christ in you, the hope of glory."* — Colossians 1:27
His Spirit indwells, His nature is imparted, and His love flows from within. The Christian life is therefore not the outward imitation of a distant example but the inward manifestation of an indwelling Person. Christ loves through you. He forgives through you. He reveals His character through your life.
Second, the believer is *in* Christ — joined to Him, hidden in Him, drawing life from Him the way a branch draws from the vine. These are not two separate experiences; they are two sides of the same living union.

Where Love Is Resisted, Dryness Begins
Love is the evidence of union, and its absence is the sign of a weakened connection. Since God is love, walking outside love is walking away from fellowship with Him. Bitterness, envy, unforgiveness, strife, and selfishness do not simply affect relationships with people — they contradict divine communion.
*"He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love."* — 1 John 4:8
Just as sap flows from a vine into its branches, divine love flows from the Father into Christ, from Christ into the believer, and through the believer toward others. Where love flows freely, the life of Christ becomes visible. Where love is blocked or resisted, spiritual dryness quietly sets in.
---
Growing Into the Fullness of Love
The deeper a believer abides in Christ's love, the more profoundly transformation takes place. Selfishness loses its grip. Spiritual sensitivity sharpens. The character of Christ takes shape from within. True maturity in the Spirit is not measured by gifts or accumulated knowledge alone — it is measured by the degree to which a life is saturated with divine love.
To abide in Christ is to dwell in His love, to think through His love, to discern through His love, to forgive through His love, and to live from His very nature. Every dimension of the Christian life finds its proper expression here.
The goal of salvation was never merely the forgiveness of sins, as glorious as that is. The goal is union — Christ in the believer, the believer in Christ — all sustained and expressed through the unending fellowship of divine love.
