Receiving Our Inheritance: From Promise to Manifestation (Part 2)

**LIVING IN THE SPIRIT**

In Part 1, we saw that our inheritance in Christ comes to us as seed, planted in the heart through the Word and nurtured by the Holy Spirit until it produces fruit. We traced this principle through Joshua, David, Jeremiah, Moses, and Solomon. Now we turn to how that seed becomes lived experience.

**POSSESSION VERSUS EXPERIENCE**

Understanding this principle helps us distinguish between the new birth and the believer's inheritance.

When we believed in Christ, our spirit was instantly made alive. We became new creations, justified before God, accepted in the Beloved, and sealed with the Holy Spirit. These realities were accomplished entirely by God's grace through faith.

The transformation of our soul, however, is progressive. James tells us to receive with meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save our souls. As the Word renews our minds, our thinking, emotions, and decisions increasingly reflect the life of Christ.

Likewise, our inheritance is progressively experienced as the Holy Spirit works through the implanted Word. God has already given every spiritual blessing in Christ, yet He ordinarily brings those blessings into practical experience through the continual reception, meditation, confession, and obedience of His Word.

This protects us from two common errors. The first is striving in the flesh, imagining that God's promises are earned through human effort. The second is passivity, assuming that because every promise has already been given, no response of faith is required.

The Kingdom operates differently:

Grace provides the inheritance. Faith receives it. The Holy Spirit cultivates it. The Word brings it to maturity.

This explains why Hebrews tells us that we inherit the promises through faith and patience (Hebrews 6:12). Faith receives the seed; patience remains with the seed until the harvest appears. We do not abandon God's Word because circumstances seem unchanged. We continue meditating, believing, speaking, and obeying because we trust the One who gave the promise.

**GUARDING OUR ATTENTION**

The greatest battle, therefore, is often not against the promise itself but against our attention. The enemy seeks to divert our minds toward fear, worry, disappointment, worldly ambitions, or visible circumstances. If he can move our attention away from the Word, he interrupts the process by which faith grows.

This is why remaining in the Spirit always requires remaining in the Word.

The Holy Spirit continually points us back to Christ, and Christ is revealed through His Word. As we fill our hearts with Scripture, the Spirit gives understanding, strengthens faith, renews the mind, and produces the life of Christ within us.

**THE NORMAL PATTERN OF THE KINGDOM**

Receiving our inheritance is therefore not a mystical experience reserved for a few mature believers. It is the normal pattern of the Kingdom.

God speaks. We receive His Word into an honest and good heart. We meditate upon it until faith arises. We obey what He has said. We persevere with patience. In due season, the seed produces its harvest.

This is the pathway from promise to manifestation.

Every promise God has made is already secure in Christ. The question is not whether God is willing to fulfil His Word. The question is whether His Word has found good ground in our hearts.

The Parable of the Sower teaches us that the seed possesses life within itself. Our responsibility is not to manufacture the harvest but to receive the seed, guard it diligently, nourish it through meditation, and cooperate with the Holy Spirit until the life hidden within the Word becomes visible in our lives.

Our inheritance is not obtained by striving. It is cultivated by abiding.

As we abide in Christ and His Word abides richly in us, the Holy Spirit faithfully brings the promises of God from the pages of Scripture into the daily experience of the believer. This is the mystery of the Kingdom, and this is the privilege of every child of God.
