Section 3 Understanding Covenant Relationship as a Channel for Receiving God's Help

Living in the Spirit :

In Section 1, we saw Jehoshaphat access covenant help by standing on God's promise. In Section 2, we saw how covenant operates as a governing system—preserving some, opposing others, working entirely independent of people's awareness. Now in Section 3, we arrive at the most important question of all: what does all of this mean for you as a believer in Christ today?

IX. The Believer Now Has a Better Covenant in Christ

Everything we have seen—Jehoshaphat in the temple, the promise sustained through Jehu's family, Amaziah's victories and defeats, his throne preserved through the Davidic covenant—all of it points forward to something greater.

The highest expression of covenant is not a temple, a throne, or a family lineage. It is the New Creation in Christ Jesus. As a believer, you now live under a covenant that is better than anything we have looked at so far. Scripture says we are partakers of "a better covenant, established on better promises" (Hebrews 8:6).

The access Jehoshaphat had through the physical temple, you now carry permanently in Christ. The generational promise Jehu's family enjoyed, you now possess in full as an inheritance that will never expire. The throne protection Amaziah experienced through the Davidic covenant, you now have in Christ—the Son of David—who sits on an eternal throne and shares that position with all who are in Him.

Unlike those old arrangements, this covenant is not restricted to one nation, one location, or one bloodline. It belongs to everyone who is in Christ.

X. Every Promise Carries a Divine Yes

The help available to you as a New Creation flows through God's promises in Christ—and every one of those promises is guaranteed. "For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen" (2 Corinthians 1:20). Let that sink in. Not some of the promises. All of them. Not "maybe" or "we'll see"—Yes. God has already said Yes to every promise He has made, and that Yes is secured and confirmed through Christ.

These promises are not just encouraging words for hard days—they are your inheritance. "Blessed… who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ" (Ephesians 1:3).

This inheritance is rich, glorious, and deeper than any one person can fully explore in a lifetime. When we talk about receiving help from God, we are not talking about occasional moments of divine rescue. We are talking about a believer drawing from an inexhaustible inheritance that already belongs to him.

XI. You Are Qualified—and It Is Sealed

Perhaps the most important question a new believer asks is this: but why would these promises belong to me? The answer is clear: Christ has qualified you. "Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance" (Colossians 1:12). Your qualification is not based on how long you have been a Christian, how well you have behaved, or how spiritually mature you feel. It is based entirely on what Jesus has already done. And it is not just promised—it is sealed. The blood of Jesus established this covenant (Hebrews 9:14–15; Luke 22:20). When Jesus shed His blood, He made every promise a binding, unbreakable covenant reality. So when you stand on the Word of God, you are not wishful thinking. You are standing on something that has been legally put in place, divinely guaranteed, and sealed with the blood of God's own Son.

Just as God remained faithful to Jehu's family even when they were failing, and just as He preserved Amaziah's throne through the Davidic covenant even after his defeat, how much more will He remain faithful to the covenant made through Christ? "If we are faithless, He remains faithful" (2 Timothy 2:13)—because His faithfulness is now anchored not to your performance, but to the finished, perfect work of Jesus.

Conclusion

Covenant opens doors that personal effort cannot. Jehoshaphat stood in covenant and God fought for him. Amaziah ignored covenant realities and suffered defeat—even though he was a good man. Jehu's family was preserved through their failures because a promise was in place over them. Amaziah himself defeated Edom not because of his own greatness, but because an older covenant had already arranged that victory. And even when he lost his greatest battle, his throne remained standing—held up by a covenant he may never have fully appreciated.

You, as a believer in Christ, now stand in something far greater than all of these. You stand in Christ Himself—the living fulfilment of every covenant God has ever made. You have better promises, a permanent qualification, and an inheritance that is rich, glorious, and inexhaustible.

Help is no longer something you have to earn or beg for. It is internal—Christ lives in you. It is covenantal—secured by His blood. It is accessible—through faith in His promises. So the question is not simply: do I need help? The question is: do I understand the covenant that gives me access to that help?

The promises of God in Christ are your help, your inheritance, and your advantage. They are all Yes and Amen—not because of who you are, but because of who Christ is, what He has done, and what His blood has sealed.
