**The Blessing and Divine Purpose**

**The Blessing and Divine Purpose**

Living in the Spirit :

When God blessed Abraham, He spoke words of both purpose and empowerment. *"I will bless thee... and thou shalt be a blessing... and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed"* (Genesis 12:2-3). The blessing was never an end in itself. It was God's empowerment to accomplish His redemptive plan through Abraham.

**Blessing Is Connected to Purpose**

God's blessing is always tied to purpose. Abraham did not fully understand his calling when God first spoke to him, and many believers do not immediately grasp the fullness of their divine purpose either. Yet every believer carries both a general purpose shared with all believers and a unique purpose assigned to them individually. Our purpose is our function within God's Kingdom, and the Holy Spirit equips us to fulfill it.

**Purpose Is Greater Than Human Failure**

The purpose of God was the dominant force in Abraham's life. When Abraham went down to Egypt without consulting God, he found himself in a difficult situation. Yet God intervened, protected Sarah, and delivered Abraham. Abraham left Egypt not as a defeated man but under divine protection, because God's covenant purpose could not be overturned by his failure. Even when Abraham tried to help God through Hagar, grace preserved the promise. God corrected him, clarified the covenant, and reaffirmed what He had spoken. This does not excuse disobedience, but it demonstrates that as long as our hearts remain responsive to God, He continually works to align us with His purpose.

**Many Believers Know Their Occupation but Not Their Purpose**

Many people know their careers, businesses, and talents, yet remain uncertain about their divine purpose. John the Baptist could clearly declare his: *"I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness."* The greater question for every believer is not simply what career they have or how much they earn, but where they fit within God's plan of redemption.

**Every Believer Has a Divine Purpose**

God knows every star by name and calls each one individually. Likewise, every human being is personally known by God. The uniqueness of every fingerprint reflects the uniqueness of His design. *"Everyone that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory"* (Isaiah 43:7). No life is accidental, and no believer is without assignment.

Paul confirms this: *"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them"* (Ephesians 2:10). Before our birth, God prepared works for us to accomplish. For every purpose, ability, grace, resources, and spiritual gifts have been provided. God never creates a purpose without supplying the means to fulfill it.

**True Prosperity Is Found Within Purpose**

God's blessing is the empowerment to fulfill His assignment. While financial provision is included in His care for His people, true prosperity is far larger than money. It encompasses peace, joy, fruitfulness, fulfillment, Kingdom impact, and eternal reward. Many struggle because they do not know their purpose, have ignored it, abandoned it, or allowed themselves to be distracted from it.

**Divine Purpose Serves God's Redemptive Plan**

The promise that *"all families of the earth shall be blessed"* through Abraham was, according to Galatians, the gospel preached beforehand. God's plan has always been the reconciliation of all things through Christ, encompassing righteousness by faith, the gift of the Holy Spirit, redemption, and the restoration of His purpose for mankind. Every divine purpose ultimately serves this larger redemptive plan.

**Beware of Drifting from Purpose**

It is possible to drift from divine purpose. Jeroboam received a kingdom from God yet departed from His intention and led Israel into sin. The same danger exists today. A job is not necessarily a purpose. A business is not necessarily a purpose. A talent is not necessarily a purpose. These things become meaningful only when they serve God's Kingdom. In some cases, what appears to be success may actually be the greatest distraction from divine purpose.

**Let Your Light Shine**

Jesus said, *"A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid."* The eternal life within us is God's light, and it must shine through the good works He prepared for us. Our divine purpose is the visible expression of the life of Christ within us. When we walk in our God-ordained purpose, His glory is revealed through us.

**Conclusion**

The blessing of God is not merely the ability to possess things; it is the divine empowerment to fulfill divine purpose. Abraham was blessed because God had a purpose for him, and we have been blessed in Christ because God has a purpose for us. The great task of every believer is to discover where they fit within God's eternal plan of redemption and faithfully walk in the good works He prepared beforehand. There is a general purpose shared by all believers — to glorify Christ and advance His Kingdom — and a unique purpose assigned to each one. The blessing empowers both. The Holy Spirit equips both. And the glory belongs to God alone.
